My only regret is that I did not stay longer.
So I went down to Acapulco for two reasons...1. Get scuba certified 2. Get to know my uncle. I definitely did both 1 and 2 but and in addtion ended exploring a ton of what Acapulco is all about. In my adventures I found that I totally blended into the mix of people living down there with the only difference being that I was not as dark as everyone else. I would randomly ask people where they thought I was was from and everyone either said "Chilango" (people from the capital of Mexico) or Argentenian. My uncle who I had never met before worked in night clubs for about 30 years and has lived in Acapulco for 40 so its safe to say that he 'knows' people and places. He's a pretty funny guy who shares the same attitude about life as me.....relax and live happily. One day while me and my uncle were walking through the Zocalo a lady called out to my uncle and my uncle responded with "Amor de mi vida!", they said hi to each other , introduced me and we went about our way. Later that day while driving through the streets the car next to us honks their horn and I turn to see a lady blowing a kiss to my uncle. My uncle returns the kiss in the same manner and I think to myself "daaaaaaaang...". The next day we went to un cumpleaños where my uncle started talking about the old days and all the people he knows when he turns to me and says "Sobrino....remember those two ladies from yesterday......I have no idea who they were"....LOL...my uncle is cool. Thanks to him I learned a lot about the corruption, street navigation, locals, politics, traditions of Acapulco. Driving is a crazy thing in the city of Acapulco as it was in Bolivia where everyone seems to make their own rules with regards to stop signs and lights, but somehow it all makes sense.

My scuba diving experience was a one of a kind thing that I would recommend to anybody who does not fear the open waters and can swim. Hell, even if you can't, go learn now and then scuba dive :P. Scuba certification pretty much involved practicing what to do under every situation that put you at risk. For example, at 30ft underwater my instructor shut off my oxygen tank and based upon what we had discuss at the surface I was supposed to react accordingly. Its a scary thing being down there with no oxygen but I was able to maintain my composure and react as expected =). My instructor showed some awesome areas underwater where large octopus' live and Morray Eels peer at you. Believe it or not I actually had to read a book, take quizzes and study for a final exam to get certified. So on a daily basis after a morning of diving I would go eat or sit by the beach and study. I guess in a way I visited Acapulco to study.
All in all I found that the people of Acapulco are not vastly different from people here but the world they exist in is completely different. For them there is a ton of culture, unique varieties of food you can't get elsewhere, and methods of transportations of awesomeness. Hopefully I will be able to go back at some point to explore more of its coolness.
